A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LOYD STAR HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING 1998 SEASON.

WHEREAS, the Loyd Star High School "Hornets" Football Team finished the 1998 season with an outstanding record of 10 wins and 2 losses; and

WHEREAS, the Hornets ended the 1998 season in a 3-way tie for the Class 2-A Championship with a record of 5 wins and 1 loss in division play, and won the Lincoln County Championship, the Possum Bowl and the Georgia Pacific Paper Bowl; and

WHEREAS, the diligent effort of these fine young men enabled them to fully tap their athletic abilities and achieve their season objectives; and

WHEREAS, the Loyd Star High School Hornets were ably coached by Coach Roe Burns and Assistant Coaches Rickey Smith and Shannon Eubanks; and

WHEREAS, the following team members were recognized for superior play: Markes Shannon (Most Valuable Player in Division 6-2A and All-Division), Jason Miles (All-Division), Seth Lofton (All-Division), Brodie Burns (All-Division), T.J. Dunn (All-Division), Russ Britt (All-District and Co-Lin Football Scholarship), Kyle King (All-District), Justin Spencer (All-District and Co-Lin Football Scholarship) and Brooks Smith (All-District); and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend the outstanding achievements of this team which has brought honor to its school, community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Loyd Star High School Football Team for its outstanding 1998 season, and wish them continued success in their athletic, academic and career endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Loyd Star High School Principal and to Coach Roe Burns and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
